Q: What destination feels like a second home to you?
A: I was born in Abu Dhabi, where my parents—an Indonesian–British engineering couple—worked in the late 1970s and early 1980s and built their own expat community. They named me Alia to reflect my birthplace, a name that in Arabic means “The Highest” or “The Exalted,” and the UAE has always felt like home to me. Whenever we take clients on FAM trips to the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, I enjoy seeing their perceptions shift as they discover how deeply rooted and authentic the country’s culture truly is.

Q: What destination feels like a second home to you?
A: I would have to say South Africa, it really holds such a special place in my heart as my Ouma lives there. I get serious FOMO when any itineraries come across (as I do with all destinations to be completely honest), however SA really does feel like home as I’ve spent so much time there growing up and I cannot wait to take my babies on adventures in the Kruger Park.

Q: What is your most memorable event?
A: A river Cruise from Basel to Cologne back in 2024 with amazing clients from across North America. It was such a unique experience that I perhaps wouldn’t have done otherwise. Along the way, we explored charming towns, majestic castles, and breathtaking river views. Beyond the scenery, the trip offered something even more valuable: the chance to build lasting relationships while sharing these unforgettable moments together.

Q: Where is your comfort destination that always makes you smile when thinking of it?
A: New York City! The energy, the diversity, incredible shopping, some of my favourite restaurants in the world, and the feeling that anything is possible. It never fails to make me smile.

Q: Where have you experienced the warmest welcome from locals?
A: It has to be Corfu, Greece. The locals are easy to talk to, genuinely kind, and always willing to help, like giving you a hand with your bags when you are struggling, offering you a lift if they are heading in the same direction… As a solo traveller, I couldn’t feel more safe and comfortable the whole time, which made the trip really special. I’d happily go back and explore even more places across Greece!

Q: Which destination do you believe everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime?
A: London is a city everyone should experience at least once. I’m slightly biased—it’s where I grew up and where my family and roots are—but that’s exactly why it means so much to me. It’s deeply grounded in history, yet constantly evolving. London has become a truly multicultural hub, where people from every corner of the world live side by side. That diversity is reflected in its culture, energy, and incredible international food scene. Few cities balance tradition and global influence quite like London.
